つながる美・引き継ぐ心ー琵琶湖文化館の足跡と新たな美術館

大津市打出浜に建つ琵琶湖文化館は、滋賀の文化財の保護、公開、琵琶湖の観光に寄与するために昭和36年（1961）に開館しました。その収蔵品の中でも、国宝・重要文化財を含む寺社からの寄託品は、全国でも有数の質と量を誇ります。平成20年度より施設の老朽化等の理由から休館となっていますが、近年これらの収蔵品は日本各地、さらには海外でも展示され、多くの方に滋賀の文化の豊かさを知っていただく機会となりました。
これら琵琶湖文化館の収蔵品は、当館を再整備し、平成32年３月に生まれ変わる予定の新たな美術館に引き継がれ、公開される方針です。本展は、琵琶湖文化館が長年守り伝えてきた滋賀の貴重な仏教・神道美術をはじめとする文化財や、担ってきた機能を当館が継承していくことをみなさんにお伝えし、新しい美術館への期待感を高めていただくために開催するものです。ご縁のある寺社からお借りした宝物もまじえ、これらを通してこれまでの琵琶湖文化館の取り組みと、これからの展望をご紹介いたします。
 
The Museum of Modern Art, Shiga is currently preparing for its renewal in March 2020.  Following the renewal, there will be three new collection focuses relating to the theme “The Beauties of Shiga.”  One of these is the Arts of Buddhism. Since 1961, the Museum of Shiga Prefecture, Biwako-Bunkakan has collected and exhibited works such as deposited treasures from local shrines and temples.
 Unfortunately, this museum has been closed since 2008 due to structural issues.
 The new museum will continue the legacy of the Biwako-Bunkakan through the exploration, display, and study of its treasures.  The upcoming exhibition features 75 works including one National Treasure and 19 Important Cultural Properties.  This exhibition will celebrate the legacy of Biwako-Bunkakan and the future of the new museum.
